Puppy

Project type

3D Model

Date

February 2023

Location

Cairo, Egypt

I haven't 3D modeled an animal before, let alone a puppy. I wanted to try by 3D modeling puppy, so I looked up references on Google and sketched my own cartoon version of the puppy. Afterwards, I used Adobe Scanner to scan my drawing, sent it to my laptop, and imported in a new scene in Maya. I started with a sphere that has 6 subdivisions axis and 6 subdivisions height (instead of the default, which is 20). I used one for the head and another for the body. I worked on the head first and then the body, following my drawing for both. Then, I used a cylinder to connect them both. After connecting them, I added the eyeballs, tongue, ears, nose, and little hairs on the top of the head that look like a sprout. I used Clip Studio Paint for the eye texture and for the paw texture, imported it to Maya in Hypershade, and then applied them to the eyes and the paws. I used UV Editor to fix the UV mapping of them. Then, I created materials and chose colors for the dog, tongue, ears, hairs, and nose and applied the materials on them. I tweaked the colors a little bit until I was satisfied. I decided last minute to add a tennis ball and a background to make the scene feel complete. I added a Sky Dome, tweaked the attributes, and finally rendered the scene.

Before finalizing the scene, I added joints and controls on the puppy because I'm planning on animating in the future, featuring the puppy.
