"Marionettes, Inc." is a short story written by Ray Bradbury. The story is about a guy, who is tired of his wife stopping him from enjoying doing his personal interests. His friend suggested him to get a duplicate of himself to cover for him. To his surprise, his wife got herself a duplicate to cover for her.
When reading the story, what came to my mind is mechanical heart. The husband found out about his wife's duplicate by listening to her heart "ticking." First, I sketched out the mechanical heart, trying to layout the idea. After sketching, I imported the image to Adobe Illustrator and used the vector tool to outline the sketch. Then, I imported the image to Clip Studio Paint to color in the sketch, adding shadows and highlights. Afterwards, I imported it back to Adobe Illustrator to layout the outline of the book cover and add the words, like the title, the "tick"s, etc. To finalize the cover, I decided to design it to look worn out and old, since the story was originally published in 1949.
