FlashLIT 2022
Project type
Vector Illustration
Date
March 2022
Location
Wilmington, NC
I participated in the FlashLIT 2022 competition, where writers submit their writing pieces. The theme for year 2022 was HOME. Instead of submitting a writing piece, I helped designing and illustrating the writer's artwork.
I was assigned the poem "6617, A love letter to M" by Fedoua Larhouasli. Her poem was about Morocco, her hometown. After reading her poem, the first thing that came to mind is an Arab coffee shop. As an Arab myself, those places remind me of home. They remind me of the times, where you go to the coffee shops with family or friends, having a good time.
I found an image of a Moroccan coffee shop from Pexels as my reference photo. I used Adobe Illustrator to create my illustration. I used the vector tool to create the shapes and used the eye drop to select the colors from the reference image. After I finished creating the illustration, I imported it to Adobe Photoshop and changed the image from colored to black and white. The photo needed to be black and white since the FlashLIT book was going to be printed in black and white.
